Communication
I’ve been taking a huge interest over the last few years in how we communicate with each other. You’d think it would be fairly easy to get things across to someone with whom you share a common language, but have you noticed how often this just isn’t the case?
What with body language, accent, sense of humour, perception, emotion and a host of other complications, communication is not a simple task. How can body language affect the way we communicate on the phone? Why do our extremely funny jokes fall flat with certain people? Do I need to feed your emotions with my words, paint pictures or create a heavenly choir in your head? Do I really need to ask questions when trying to illustrate a point?
Communication is a 2 way thing, unless you are talking to yourself. But as I type this I’m thinking to myself “Ah, yes, but to talk to yourself you actually have to listen to the inner voice, look at the pictures in your head and see how it makes you feel and then decide what actions to take in order to do something about it”. Although I think that perhaps with some people it is only a one way thing; having listened to what has been said, seen the reactions and how the words affect the feelings of those on the receiving end I can honestly believe this.
In my role as employer, salesman, husband, father and friend I always try to ensure that I communicate effectively. I shudder to think how bad my relationships would be if I wasn’t trying!
I use my ears (both of them), my eyes and bypass all of my internal filters when receiving what someone is trying to communicate to me. I then use my brain to process the information and respond in the best way that I can. If you feel that I am not doing all of these things then let me know, I’m grateful for feedback, it enables me to improve.
Here’s my final question; how do you communicate?

Upbeat about the economy?
Well look at this, the CBI have come to the same conclusion that quite a few in the manufacturing sector came to a few months ago.
